Poets Corner: The Commission
|
I asked the Lord to help my neighbour
and carry the Gospel to distant lands.
And to comfort the sick, but he said to me:
If you love me, be my hands
I asked the Lord to go to the dying
and the orphan in the street.
And visit the prisoner, but he said to me:
If you love me, be my feet
I asked the Lord to look to the poor
and watch over each babe that cries
And to see each man's need, but he said to me:
If you love me, be my eyes
I said to the Lord 'I want to serve you'
but I don't know where to start.
To love is the answer, he said to me:
If you love me, be my heart

Who...who...who?
|
Plays the organ, piano, guitar
Arranges flowers in vase or jar?
Types the script of the bulletin
Produces the monthly magazine?
Records the service for shut-in friends
Informs the faithful of missionary trends?
Collects the faithful to bring them to church
Or springs to the fore when we're left in the lurch?
Stands in the porch when it's freezing and cold
To welcome all-comers from the young to the old?
Maintains the fabric, rewires the lights
Reads out the notices, protects our rights?
Climbs up the ladders, puts paint on the walls
Steps up the heat when the temperature falls?

Makes a strong brew of coffee or tea
Washes up crocks after meeting or spree?
Collects up the offering, pays every bill
Keeps books and records with his trusted quill?
Tidies the kitchen, empties the bins
Puts up the notice with stout drawing pins?
Hoovers the Church and dusts every pew
Shines up the brass displayed to our view?
Visits the sick with sympathy card
Carries the flowers to hospital ward?
To preachers and teachers who carry the load
To the army of workers within the church fold
To the Minister, Deacons and leaders say 'Thanks'?
May the good Lord reward you - in German it's DANKE!

Things Well Said
|
Man's way leads to a hopeless end. God's way leads to an endless hope.
He who kneels before God can stand in any situation.
When praying, don't give God instructions, just report for duty.
We don't change God's message - His message changes us.
The church is prayer conditioned.
God doesn't call the qualified - He qualifies the called.
Do you suffer from truth decay? Brush up on your Bible.
Excercise daily. Walk with the Lord.
Worry is the darkroom where negatives can develop.
That which is in the well of the heart will come up in the bucket of speech.
Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends on what you are made of.
When God ordains, He sustains.
Wrinkled with burden? Come to church for a faith lift.
